My Story
Where it all started
At the age of 6. I started learning the piano when I was in Hong Kong. It was quite a risky move for my parents because I had not shown any propensity to music prior to this. Starting with a 48-key digital keyboard, I learned the very basics of the piano. After receiving an upright piano as a gift from my mother, in addition to classical music I started branching out to pop music. I still remember the moments when I played Hikaru Utada (a Japanese pop singer) and Joey Yung's (a Cantonese pop singer) songs. It was also around this period when I was first exposed intensively to music theory and the concept of musicality.
Honing my piano skills and discovering myself
My piano journey was not halted by moving to Canada at the age of 13. Having continued with a couple of highly experienced instructors, I obtained the ARCT in Piano Performance diploma at the age of 18. It was with these Instructors that we discovered that I actually have perfect pitch.
With my knowledge about music theories, my skills in piano performance and perfect pitch. I ventured to transcribe pop songs when I turned 19. Over all these years, I have transcribed no less than a total of 50 songs (English pop. Cantonese pop. Mandarin pop, Japanese pop, and Korean pop), all of which received high praises from those who heard them.
In obtaining a Master of Education from the University of British Columbia (UBC), I learned a lot about how children, adolescents, and adults attain knowledge, as well as the different styles of learning. I am well aware of the limitless combinations of personalities, academic background, cultural background, and goals, as well as how they affect one's learning curve and interests. I am well-equipped to devise individual solutions in order to help my students overcome their barriers and become the best versions of themselves.

Gone are the days when you are supposed to just sit and listen to the instructor. I endeavour to foster a positive and encouraging environment, to try different interpretations together, and to create meaningful music with you, so that you will develop a solid understanding of the world of piano music and can reach your unique goals.
I strongly believe that there are countless ways that music can be appreciated. It is my goal to share my perspective and learn with my students about their unique perspectives.
